What AI agent visibility is
AI agent visibility is the ability of a business to be found, understood, cited, and recommended inside assistant answers.
Traditional search visibility asks whether a page ranks where a human can see it. AI agent visibility asks a different question: can an assistant retrieve the right facts, resolve the right entity, trust the evidence, and use the business in a final answer?
For a local business, visibility is not just a website problem. Assistants draw from websites, structured data, business profiles, maps, reviews, directories, local media, and live search indexes. A business can be present in one source and still fail if the assistant cannot connect the sources into one clean entity.
The four jobs
AI visibility has four practical jobs:
| Job | What it means | Common failure |
|---|---|---|
| Find | The assistant can discover the business for relevant buyer prompts. | The business is absent from search, maps, directories, or indexable pages. |
| Understand | The assistant can tell what the business does, where it operates, and who it serves. | Services, location, hours, or category are vague. |
| Cite | The assistant can point to a source that supports the claim. | The page is thin, blocked, stale, or unsupported by third parties. |
| Recommend | The assistant has enough confidence to include the business in a shortlist. | A competitor has clearer facts, stronger authority, or a better action path. |
Why local businesses need a different lens
Local prompts are messy. A user may ask for "best," "near me," "open now," "takes my insurance," "emergency," "kid-friendly," or "book tonight." An assistant has to satisfy the intent, localize the answer, and avoid recommending a business that is closed, unavailable, or not clearly qualified.
That is why AgentFound treats AI visibility as a set of observable signals rather than a single ranking. The audit looks for the ingredients an assistant needs: findability, citations, answerable facts, authority, structured data, profile consistency, action paths, crawler access, and freshness.
What the agent needs
A clear business entity, a current location, explicit services, credible supporting sources, and a next step the user can complete.
How to improve it
Start with the most basic facts. Make the business name, category, service area, hours, phone, booking path, and source pages consistent across the website and major profiles. Then strengthen the evidence around those facts with structured data, reviews, citations, and answer-ready pages.
AI visibility is not won by adding one "AI optimized" block. It improves when many public sources say the same current, verifiable thing about the business.
Check the current read
Run the audit before and after fixes so you can see whether assistants moved from unclear, uncited, or missing to cited and recommended.
